Strictly Come Dancing Week 11
This week Strictly Come Dancing was in the home of British Ballroom Dancing; Blackpool! This iconic venue really complimented the fantastic performances on show and we were certainly treated to another amazing week of dancing. The duos had fought really hard and put in so much effort to make it to Blackpool and with the pressure on, they certainly didn’t let us down!

What Did We Think?
The Saturday night show was started with a fantastic group performance including both the celebrities AND the professional dancers! This was quite a long routine which had clearly been well practised and rehearsed. You could feel the sense of pride in not just their performances but in the fact that these couples had made it to this crucial and vital stage in the competition, something they should definitely be proud of! The iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom is such a key symbol for UK dancing and it was celebrating its 125th anniversary and the dancing duos certainly celebrated that in style…
Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer
Dance: The Salsa.
As per usual with this couple, it was a very likable performance with some bright colours and energetic dance moves on show. This routine involved other dancers which really complemented the performance well as they helped with some very ambitious moves, however they were pulled off excellently. This couple has come a long way since they started and this performance was certainly up there with their strongest. Their progress was clearly recognised by the judges with even critical Craig saying that Chris had upped his game despite some mild criticism also. Motsi referred to the dance as “slick”, “fun” and “energetic” which is very accurate and fair. A very strong scoring Salsa as Chris and Karen continue to improve!
Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke
Dance: American Smooth.
This was a very strong and classy performance from Emma and Anton who both looked and performed superbly. At the traditional home of Ballroom Dancing, this was an excellent tribute to those who’ve danced before them with some high-level technicality and an overall fantastic stage presence. It was quite a slow performance, however for this type of American Smooth that is what is expected and was certainly delivered excellently. Craig referred to it as a “beautiful” performance and Shirley paid tribute to “excellent footwork” and said it was their best dance so far in the competition. Upon receiving their scores they were both in absolute shock. This is Anton’s 17th series on Strictly Come Dancing and he has never received a 10 and he suddenly received two! Fantastic achievement!
Alex Scott and Neil Jones
Dance: Paso Doble.
This Beyonce influenced performance was certainly was one of Alex and Neil’s strongest. It was a very sharp and passionate performance which required Alex to stay in character which she did perfectly. They were complemented well by other dancers on stage which made the whole performance look great. Their outfits were on point and their passion and high levels of energy were there for everyone to see as they really did perform superbly. The judges were full of praise with Bruno referring to it as an “amazing” performance as Alex fulfilled her dream of dancing to Beyonce and paying a fitting tribute to her too!
Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse
Dance: The Jive.
Kelvin and Oti once again showed their dominance with an outstanding Elvis Presley inspired Jive with some incredible dancing. Kelvin’s footwork was out of this world and with 60’s style hair, he really did look the part. The performance as always was very upbeat and with bright colours, great outfits and the music to match, it was an overall very strong dance which will undoubtedly take them very far in the competition. Motsi was so stunned she accidentally started speaking German when giving her feedback which says it all about this performance! Head judge Shirley said she was speechless and was full of praise for the dancing duo who once again showed us that they mean business in the competition.
Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice
Dance: Couple’s Choice- Street Comercial.
Once again a great performance from this gifted duo. With fantastic outfits and good use of props and stage awareness, this was a dance which was very enjoyable to watch. It wasn’t their strongest performance in the competition but it was most definitely a very good one. Michelle as a professional performer brings so much more to the floor than just dancing; her ability to play a character is incredible which she did so excellently in this performance. Critical Craig said he loved the sentiment, however it had a few technical issues which is fair. Mixed feedback leaning towards positive from the judges which Michelle and Giovanni should be pleased with.
The Couple Leaving The Competition Were…
Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice. This really was a shock exit from the competition, however at this stage every couple is a strong couple and someone, unfortunately, had to leave. This week wasn’t their strongest, however they have certainly had some excellent performances over the weeks and have truly been a joy to watch! They were predicted to make it further than this stage, however the cruel nature of the public vote can be so harsh.
