Strictly Come Dancing Week 12

Where has everyone gone?! Just like that, we are into the last handful of dancing duos as each week another couple departs the competition. Following last week’s Blackpool Ballroom Boogie, the dancers set a very high standard for themselves to follow, however they did just that with another excellent weekend of dancing! From quirky Quicksteps to pretty Paso Dobles, this weekend had everything including the series debut of a rare dance not often seen on Strictly…

Strictly Come Dancing Week 12

What Did We Think?

Saturday was a great night, not just for dancing, but for overall performances also! The show was kick-started by a fantastic group performance which really caught our attention from the off. It was a bright pink, ballroom themed performance with brightly coloured clothing and accessories to match. But it wasn’t the dancing or aesthetics that stood out the most, it was the live singing from judge Bruno Tonioli! Yes, that’s right, the friendly judge gave us a rendition of “Can’t take my eyes off you” by Frankie Valli. Alongside the excellent dancing on show by the professionals, this was the perfect way to kick start a great night of live performances!

Legs Eleven Strictly Come Dancing Week 12

The Performances:

Alex Scott and Neil Jones

Dance: Argentine Tango.

Score 26.

As the first couple this series to perform the Argentine Tango, it’s safe to say that they did a good job! Not their strongest performance by a long shot, but this wasn’t a bad performance by any stretch of the imagination. This was a fierce dance which was incredibly passionate and once again we saw some fantastic footwork from the former footballer. It lacked some technical ability and stand out material, but overall it was a good performance. They received mixed feedback with ever-so-critical Craig referring to the dance as “flat-footed”, however Bruno was full of compliments saying that Alex had a great ability to change characters as per each dance. In a competition like this, this is really the ultimate compliment!

Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse

Dance: Couple’s Choice.

Score: 38.

Once again this was a very energetic dance from this extremely talented duo, which even had head judge Shirley Ballas on her feet dancing away during the performance! This couple’s choice was set in a kitchen home with a ‘Northern Soul’ theme to it, close to Kelvin’s heart. They both demonstrated some amazing footwork which was synchronized to perfection and was overall a great dance. It was incredibly uplifting and with amazing outfits, props/settings and music, as a performance it was fantastic! Motsi spoke about its authenticity, whilst head judge Shirley described it as “absolutely impeccable”!

Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke

Dance: Quickstep.

Score: 29.

This performance absolutely oozed class with a 1950s theme as Emma was posed as a modern-day Marilyn Monroe with the outfit to match. From the music, to the theme, to both their outfits, this overall performance was fantastic and contained so great dancing to complement the theme. There were high levels of synchronization on display and quick feet in this quirky Quickstep. Emma did struggle to keep up with Anton’s high level of expertise at times, however she did not struggle too badly. The judges were quite vocal in their light criticism of this performance where they noted the mistakes made, however they all did note the improvements that this couple have made over the last few weeks. Critical Craig gave a bizarre compliment saying that “it could have been an absolutely fantastic dance but there were mistakes” whereas Motsi said that they “did a great job!”.

Chirs Ramsey and Karen Hauer

Dance: Paso Doble.

Score: 31.

The outfits and colour scheme to match this performance just screamed ‘passion’ and ‘flair’ as once again this very talented duo impressed us all with a great performance. Chris once again went into a very serious character which certainly doesn’t suit the Geordie comedian, however he had us fooled as he was fierce throughout the performance! He was even quoted as saying “I had to look like I hated her even though she’s my mate!” in reference to his devil glare at Karen during the dance. Craig was not so critical for once as he described the performance as being “full of menace and nastiness” and Motsi informed the couple that they could be so proud of themselves as they have improved massively over the past few weeks.
